About us

The grocery is a small family run business situated opposite the picturesque green and crescent in Tyrrellspass, Co Westmeath, built by Jane countess of Belvedere in the mid 1800 s .This 1813 dwelling is a listed building and is made up of a Bar,Lounge and small grocery shop including living accommodation and outbuildings which still retain their original features and charm.

Having once been a hive of local business where one could sip on a beer while choosing their weekly shopping, times moved on and habits changed.

The grocery is now a place where one can come and delight in local baking, craft, organic foods and much more.
What makes the grocery special is that one can sit to sample some of this wonderful produce while having a tea or coffee and delight over the handcrafts stocked in the shop.

Our tea Room upstairs has bundles of charm, retaining it’s original fireplace and was once one of the main bedrooms of the house. We also serve soup/sandwiches and a daily special if you’re feeling a little peckish.

We aim to support local craft and food producers by providing a forum for their work but also provide workshops in crafts and sustainable living upstairs@thegrocery .A full list of our upcoming workshops including creative kids is posted on the site.
